Nickel alloy bar questions, answered.

Practical purchasing guidance on material identity, stock dimensions, delivery condition, inspection and ordering.

01 / 6 QUESTIONS

Grades & product forms

Which nickel alloy bar grades can I enquire about?

Start with Alloy 625, 718, 600, 825, 400 or C-276, or browse the full material directory. Related iron-based and controlled-expansion alloys are listed separately. Confirm the alloy designation and purchased form in your enquiry.

Which bar shapes are available?

Round bars are our core product. Square, flat, hexagonal and forging-bar combinations require review against the grade, dimensions, delivery condition and production route. A round-bar listing does not confirm all other sections or a forged route.

What if my drawing uses a UNS number or a different trade name?

Send the complete drawing designation, UNS number and governing specification. Catalogue names help identify the material, but a similar name or material number is not sufficient to approve a substitution.

Can you recommend an alternative alloy?

Share the engineering-approved grade, operating conditions and the reason for considering an alternative. Any substitution needs technical review and approval from the party responsible for material selection before ordering.

Do you supply finished shafts, valve parts or fasteners?

This website focuses on bars and related solid sections as raw material. If your enquiry includes machining or finished components, identify that scope and provide the drawing for a separate capability review.

Does a product photograph confirm the alloy or available stock?

A photograph illustrates the stated form or identified material. It does not confirm current inventory, dimensions, heat-treatment condition or a particular batch’s results. The quotation and order documents establish the supply scope.

Dimensions & delivery condition

Which dimensions should I include for each shape?

Round bars: diameter and length. Square bars: side length and length. Flat bars: thickness, width and length. Hexagonal bars: across flats (AF) and length. Forging bars: diameter and length, plus the forged route and machining allowance. Include units, tolerances and quantity.

What is the round-bar diameter range?

Our general round-bar diameter range is 1–300 mm. The available diameter and condition must be confirmed for the selected grade and order. This figure is not a square-bar side, flat-bar width or hexagonal AF range.

Can I request cut lengths or several lengths in one order?

List each required length, its tolerance, piece count and cutting allowance. Include any minimum usable length or handling limit. Cutting arrangements, quantity and schedule are reviewed in the quotation.

How should I specify machining allowance and tolerances?

Distinguish finished-part dimensions from the incoming stock size. State the requested allowance and tolerances for each dimension, together with straightness, flatness or corner requirements relevant to the section.

How do I specify annealed, solution-treated or aged material?

Use the condition required by the applicable product specification and approved drawing. For material requiring further heat treatment after machining, state the delivered condition and who is responsible for the subsequent treatment.

Can I request a particular surface finish?

Describe the required finish, surface acceptance criteria and machining allowance. Requests for turned, peeled, ground or other finishes need route review. A bright appearance alone does not establish heat treatment or compliance with a finish requirement.

03 / 6 QUESTIONS

Standards, testing & documents

Which ASTM or ASME standard should I put on my enquiry?

Use the specification applicable to the alloy, purchased form and required condition, and identify the edition. Grade pages list bar references. A specification for tubing, sheet or forgings is not automatically applicable to bar stock.

Can I specify NACE or API requirements?

Provide the exact document, edition, applicable clauses, material condition and service information. Requirements are reviewed for the order; the presence of NACE or API in an enquiry does not establish blanket conformity or company licensing.

What information is needed for an IGC request?

If IGC means intergranular corrosion testing, provide the test method, specimen condition, sampling and acceptance criteria. This test is not listed in the supplied CNAS schedule and requires separate capability and scope review.

Can I request EN 10204 Type 3.1 or Type 3.2 documents?

State the document type and your project’s inspection requirements at enquiry stage. The documentation scope and any external inspection or witnessing arrangements must be reviewed and agreed before production.

Does CNAS accreditation cover every test I request?

No. CNAS L19319 covers the testing center’s listed methods and limitations. Check the schedule for the required method, material and test conditions. Other testing requirements need separate review.

How should I request traceability and third-party inspection?

Specify heat or lot identification, bundle or piece-level marking, required reports and how identification should remain linked after cutting. List third-party witness or hold points and the nominated inspection arrangements before agreeing the production schedule.

Quotation, packing & delivery

What do you need to prepare a useful quotation?

Provide the alloy/UNS, section, dimensions, quantity, standard and edition, delivery condition, surface, tolerances, tests, documents, destination and requested date. Include drawing numbers and revisions when relevant.

What is the minimum order quantity?

Our reference minimum order quantity is 100 kg. The quotation confirms the minimum quantity for the actual grade, section, dimensions and production route; it is not a fixed minimum for every item.

What lead time should I expect?

Our reference production lead time is 40 days. Ask for a schedule based on the actual material, dimensions, condition, testing and quantity. Required witnessing, documents and delivery arrangements should be included in that review.

Can different grades or sizes be included in the same enquiry?

Yes. List each grade, section, size and quantity as a separate line item, with its condition and standard. This allows availability, minimum quantities, marking and schedules to be reviewed independently.

How should I specify packing and shipping requirements?

Give the delivery destination, handling restrictions and required crate or bundle arrangements. State identification, packing-list and any project-specific packaging requirements. Freight scope and delivery terms should be confirmed in the quotation.

Can I submit my enquiry and drawing through this website now?

Please email your requirements and drawing to sales09@nichromalloy.com. The Contact form helps you prepare a summary to copy, but does not send, save or upload your enquiry.
